Data Scientist & ML Researcher
I am a final-year PhD student in Machine Learning at the EPSRC-funded COMPASS CDT in the School of Mathematics, University of Bristol, graduating in March 2026. I am supervised by Professors Nick Whiteley and Robert Allison. My research has focused on distribution compression, developing methods that replace large datasets with smaller, representative sets while preserving their key statistical properties. In particular, I study kernel-based approaches in Reproducing Kernel Hilbert Spaces (RKHS), where we have extended compression beyond unlabelled (marginal) distributions to joint and conditional distributions, and further to dimensionality reduction. More broadly, I am interested in approaches that enable large-scale machine learning while reducing the financial, environmental, and computational costs of modern artificial intelligence.
Alongside my academic research, I have experience applying machine learning in production-oriented environments. I have over five years of Python development experience in Linux, with a strong emphasis on writing robust, reproducible, and well-tested code using modern software engineering practices and version control. I have worked with high-performance computing systems and AWS cloud infrastructure, enabling me to train models at scale and deploy computationally demanding methods in practice. During a six-month placement as a Machine Learning Researcher within the UK government, I translated research ideas into production-quality JAX implementations, contributed to open-source tooling, and collaborated closely with engineers to ensure methods were scalable, maintainable, and suitable for real deployment.
I am currently open to roles in Data Science, Machine Learning Research, or Statistics, based in Bristol, where I can contribute both strong mathematical foundations and practical implementation skills in collaborative, applied settings.
When I am not doing research, I enjoy reading (currently working my way through the Dark Tower series) and playing strategy games (thoroughly addicted to EU5). I also enjoy playing the guitar, bouldering and skiing, not all at once.
